What Is Domain Name?

We often wonder as newbies when we hear the word; domain name, we try to attempt defining it from our own understanding. For example, when you enter a URL in your browser, this actually sends an http command to the Web server directing it to fetch and transmit the requested Web page.

WWW – This a system of Internet servers that support specially formatted documents. The documents are formatted in a markup language called HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) that supports links to other documents, as well as graphics, audio, and video files. This means you can jump from one document to another simply by clicking on hot spots. Please note that Not all Internet servers are part of the World Wide Web, some are designed to link others privately, especially for corporate purpose.

.com, .org, .edu, etc. – this are called top level domains suffixes, they are ever increasing daily online.

CC TLD – this simply means Country Code, Top Level Domain. Example of CCTLD are .co.uk –United Kingdom sites, .com.ng – Nigeria sites, .ke – Kenya sites, .com.gh – Ghana , .cn – China sites, etc.

Registering a domain is easy and simple in steps. All you will need is to ensure that it is synonymous to your kind of idea that your website will entail. This makes it easier for search engines and the likes to enlist it on time. On the average, a domain would cost about 8 dollars a year.
